Frequently Asked Questions

About Twenty8

Where is Twenty8 manufactured?

All of our Twenty8 skincare is proudly manufactured right here on the Sunshine Coast, Australia — crafted in small batches using the cleanest, purest, and highest quality ingredients to ensure exceptional freshness and potency. Our essential oil Synergy Blends are lovingly created and hand-formulated by our founder, Kim Morrison, blending decades of aromatherapy expertise with genuine passion and care.

Is Twenty8 natural?

Yes — Twenty8 is proudly 100% natural. Our aromatherapy-based skincare is handcrafted in small batches using only the purest, most natural ingredients to balance, replenish and restore your skin. You’ll never find parabens, mineral oils, petrochemicals, sulfates, GMOs, synthetic preservatives, dyes, phthalates or triclosan in our products.

While we don’t claim to be completely chemical-free (as a very small number of gentle, safe ingredients are sometimes required to stabilise certain skincare formulations), we always choose the cleanest and most natural options available.

Our essential oils, however, are 100% natural, organic, and chemical-free — each one lovingly blended with the utmost care and respect for nature’s purity.

What is the shelf-life of Twenty8 skincare and essential oils?

From the moment they are bottled, there is a two-year shelf-life given to each of our products with a recommendation to use within six months of opening.

Does Twenty8 do any animal testing?

Absolutely not. Twenty8 does not support ANY from of animal testing whatsoever.

What is the meaning behind the name Twenty8?

Twenty8 has primal and significant meaning.

We know it takes twenty-eight days to form a new habit and normalise new rituals. It takes twenty-eight days for new skin cells to restore and replenish themselves. We are governed by twenty-eight day cycles of nature, such as the moon, the tides and a woman’s cycle.

When it comes to bio-rhythms, the rhythms of life, every twenty-three days is our physical cycle, every thirty-three days is our intellectual, and every twenty-eight days is our emotional cycle.

Twenty8 is an aromatherapy based range. Aromatherapy is a therapy using essential oils, all of which have an effect on our whole system. Smell is closely linked to our emotions and it is well known that emotions govern behaviour. Our emotional cycle is twenty-eight days.

Twenty8 was aptly named and developed with the rhythms of life and nature in mind. It only takes twenty-eight days to create a brand new awareness and respect for all that you are

What is the shelf-life of Twenty8 skincare and essential oils?

From the moment they are bottled, there is a two-year shelf-life given to each of our products with a recommendation to use within six months of opening.

How are Twenty8 skincare products preserved?

Twenty8 is created using natural preservatives Grapefruit Seed Extract, Benzyl Alcohol and Olive Leaf Extract which gives the product a shelf life of two years. It is recommended that products are used within six months of opening.

What is Grapefruit Seed Extract and is it safe?

There have been some concerns regarding Grapefruit Seed Extract, and our manufacturer’s are actually working towards removing it from our products because of this. That said, we are happy to state that the Grapefruit Seed Extract that is used in Twenty8 contains no chemical preservatives at all and we have a Certificate of Analysis to confirm this.

I thought alcohol was bad in skincare, why do you use it in your Toner Concentrate and Healing Skin Boost?

Alcohol in skincare causes a lot of confusion. Most people assume this ingredient is bad for skin because it dries it out. This is only partly true. It depends on the particular alcohol and the amount of it used in a product.

Used as emulsifiers to bind products and thickening agents they are not related to the drying alcohols such as isopropyl, ethanol or methanol alcohol.

Here is a little more information derived from the Skin Deep website.

Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of fatty alcohols consisting predominantly of cetyl and stearyl alcohols found in plants, like Coconut and Palm oils (we use GMO oils).

Cetearyl Alcohol is used in cosmetics as a stabilizer to thicken an emulsion and keep it from separating, and as a foaming agent.

There are different types of alcohol with very different properties. So calling alcohol bad for skin is inaccurate.

Alcohol’s function may be as a solvent (dissolves something or thins out a mixture), emulsifier (allows two different substances to blend together), antiseptic (kills bacteria), buffer (balances the pH), stabilizer (prevents separation or unwanted reactions), preservative (minimizes bacterial growth or spoilage), penetration enhancer (improves delivery of an ingredient into skin), or fragrance fixative.

So you see, alcohol is a versatile ingredient that can perform a range of functions.

Here are 3 kinds of alcohol that you will find in skincare:

Simple Alcohols – Simple alcohols are mostly used as an antiseptic – to give the product anti-bacterial qualities. They are derived from sugars, starches, and other carbohydrates. Simple alcohols are usually water-like.

Here are some examples:

  • methanol
  • ethanol (also goes by the name ethyl alcohol, used in rubbing alcohol)
  • isopropyl alcohol (also used in rubbing alcohol)
  • denatured alcohol (also appears as SD alcohol or Alcohol Denat.)

Fatty Alcohols – Fatty alcohols are the non-drying type. They have emollient and occlusive properties.
Unlike simple alcohols, they tend to have a thick, waxy texture. Some are even solid. They are used to give products a smooth, velvety feel, which give products a nicer slip. Some fatty alcohols are occlusive, which makes them good for slowing down water loss.

Here are some examples:

  • behenyl alcohol
  • caprylic alcohol
  • cetearyl alcohol (very common)
  • cetyl alcohol (very common)
  • decyl alcohol
  • lauryl alcohol
  • myristyl alcohol
  • isostearyl alcohol
  • oleyl alcohol
  • stearyl alcohol

Aromatic Alcohols – This kind of alcohol performs a similar function to a simple alcohol but has an aromatic fragrance. It functions as a preservative or as a component of a fragrance or essential oil. Benzyl alcohol is the most common one, although it may be an irritant if derived from an essential oil.

What gives Twenty8 its unique scent? Is this natural?

Many skincare ranges will use essential oils or essential oil derivatives, or fragrances to scent their skincare range.

We personally believe the essential oils used in Twenty8 skincare are the main hero ingredients and are the foundation for all our skincare products.

Their healing, rejuvenating, restoring, replenishing, nourishing, moisturising, protecting and balancing properties also happen to create the exquisite scent that is uniquely Twenty8.

Are Twenty8’s ingredients sustainably sourced?

Twenty8’s manufacturer’s work in partnership with suppliers around the world to procure the finest therapeutic grade, ethically-sourced essential oils and plant actives, organic where possible, to formulate all of our products.

For example, the supplier of our Ylang Ylang oil has worked with a group of local farmers in a remote region of Madagascar to build a local distillery where they process the essential oil, providing a sustainable way of living to the local farmers and an exceptionally high quality end product.

Is Twenty8 certified organic?

At Twenty8, our manufacturers source only the finest therapeutic-grade natural ingredients — organic wherever possible — to create our products. Every ingredient is carefully selected for its quality, sustainability, farming ethics, and proven efficacy in delivering real results.

While we are committed to using organic ingredients wherever they meet our strict quality standards, not every high-quality or ethically sourced ingredient is certified organic — particularly those from small-scale farmers and boutique suppliers. We will never compromise the integrity or effectiveness of our formulations by substituting these premium ingredients for lesser-quality alternatives.

As more exceptional organic ingredients become available, the percentage of organic content in our products continues to grow. Our commitment remains the same: to use the cleanest, most natural, and most effective ingredients possible while maintaining the purity, performance, and integrity that define Twenty8.

Are all ingredients vegan?

Yes, we are vegan, except for one product.

Our Sweet Mint Lip Balm contains organic beeswax. Our beeswax supplier proudly tells us his bees are his family and that not one bee is harmed in the production of our beeswax.

Every other product in the Twenty8 range is indeed vegan.

Is Twenty8 gluten free?

Yes, we are gluten free, there is no gluten in ANY of our products.

Are all Twenty8 products ok for allergy sufferers?

All Twenty8 products have been designed for sensitive skin. However, there is always that one in a million chance someone could react to a product or ingredient. We recommend you always test a small amount of any Twenty8 product on the inside of your wrist before engaging in the full skincare rituals.

Does Twenty8 have an oil-free range of products?

All Twenty8 products have been designed for sensitive skin. However, there is always that one in a million chance someone could react to a product or ingredient. We recommend you always test a small amount of any Twenty8 product on the inside of your wrist before engaging in the full skincare rituals.

Does Twenty8 have an oil-free range of products?
Yes we do. The Ester Plus (+) range is designed specifically for those looking for oil-free products. Interestingly, these products are jojoba oil based. Jojoba is in fact a fluid wax and not an oil as the name suggests, making it the ideal natural product base for those seeking oil-free.

These products in particular are ideal for those with sensitive skin or those on a food protocol such as the Changing Habits Four Phase Fat Elimination or an HCG weight loss protocol.

Essential Oils

Where are Twenty8 essential oils sourced?

There is not one country or region alone that produces all of the world’s best therapeutic and organic essential oils. We source our essential oils from the best organic farmers all around the world. Depending on availability, demand, yield, weather and farming conditions, sometimes our country of origin may change for some essential oils.

Are the Twenty8 essential oils organic?

Yes every single essential oil and synergy blend is 100% certified organic. Considering over 70% of the essential oil industry is adulterated and only 5% of the industry is used therapeutically we decided the highest and most ethically sourced essential oils to trust come from an organic farming practice. We are very supportive of ethical and sustainable farming for each of our oils. We are in the process of obtaining Twenty8 organic certification.

Do you do Gas Chromotography testing?

Yes our farmers and suppliers supply gas chromatography analogies on every essential oil. If there is ANY discrepancy on the quality of an oil we do not receive it.

What is the shelf-life of Twenty8 essential oils?

Twenty8 essential oils and synergy blends have a shelf-life of two years.

Some essential oils will in fact get better with age. Base, woody oils like cedarwood, sandalwood, myrrh, frankincense and vetiver for example can get better over time, this can even be over decades and decades. Citrus oils tend to deteriorate quicker and if exposed to light and heat may only last a few months.

Please check the aroma of your oil or oil blend regardless of the expiry date as your nose will be the best gauge regarding rancidity.

What are the safety precautions when it comes to using essential oils?

Essential oils are potent, concentrated plant substances that are incredibly strong and bio-active. Just because they are natural does not always mean they are safe to use in any way you please. There are contraindications with some oils including things like photo-toxicity and skin sensitivity so it is important to always check such cautions with a reliable source.

We can recommend our website for the benefits and contra-indications on each oil or the book Like Chocolate For Women as a reputable source. Always ensure you follow the correct number of drops for each method of use.

Our recommendations on the safety of essential oils are:

Less is best.
Always dilute essential oils in a carrier oil or body lotion.
Always check for cautions and contraindications for each oil or blend before use.
Follow the Quick Reference Blending Guide for the correct number of drops for each method of use.
As a general rule avoid citrus oils on the skin when exposed to UV light.
Be aware of skin sensitive oils like cinnamon and wintergreen.
Do not take essential oils internally.

Are essential oils safe to use during pregnancy?

Generally speaking, when used correctly, most essential oils are safe to use in a diffuser or vaporiser during pregnancy. Some aromatherapists will recommend you avoid topical application, particularly in the first three months of pregnancy.

It is interesting that the safety of a few drops of essential oil are questionable yet the same amount of enquiry is not evident with things like over the counter medications, packaged additive-ridden foods, synthetic chemically-laden skincare products, pesticide use, the fumes of petrol and so on.

Check the Quick Reference Blending Guide for the correct number of drops for each method of use during pregnancy.

If you are unsure, avoid all together and check with a qualified aromatherapist.

Are essential oils safe to use with children?

Children respond beautifully with essential oils. The important thing is using the correct oils and the correct number of drops for each method of use. Always check the recommended number of drops as shown in the Quick Reference Blending Guide. Always use diluted. Some of the safest essential oils to use with children include lavender, mandarin, orange and chamomile.

Why are oils like rose, jasmine, neroli and immortelle so expensive?

Yes these oils do carry a high price tag. This is due to many reasons including the amount of plant material required to extract the essential oil, where the plant is grown, the limited harvest time, weather or climatic conditions ruining crops, organic procedures, demand and the cost of distillation or extraction processes.

These oils may carry a higher price tag but only a very small amount is required for their amazing benefits.

How many drops of essential oil are typically in a 10ml bottle?

On average there are approximately 200 drops per 10ml bottle.

Can I take essential oils internally?

No. We will never advocate the use of essential oils internally. This is outside the scope of practice for Twenty8.

Products like herbs, herbal teas and homeopathics with a more gentle effect on the digestive tract and gut microbiome may be safer alternatives internally and then use essential oils effectively externally.

Essential oils are the ideal tools for health and healing when used as an inhalation or topically in combination with natural or herbal remedies.

Internal use of essential oils should only ever be adhered to under the guidance of a qualified clinical aromatherapist or medical herbalist.

Your essential oil bottles state clearly on the label – NOT FOR INTERNAL USE – can I still use them in cooking?

The reason we have that stated clearly on the bottle is because we do not advocate the internal use of essential oils for therapeutic or medicinal use.

If an essential oil is from a food source (like basil, peppermint, spearmint, orange, grapefruit, mandarin, lime or lemon for example) then one or two drops may be a wonderful additive as a flavouring for a recipe. We recommend no more than 3-4 drops maximum per recipe, for four people.

Interesting to note here. There are a huge number of chemicals present in food flavourings and flavour extracts, yet these are considered ‘safe for human consumption’. We recommend you do your research on these numbers and food flavourings and make an educated and informed decision on whether you will include them in your diet from there.

I have been recommended doTerra and or Young Living oils, how do you differ to companies such as this?

DoTerra and Young Living are large, world-wide, multi-level marketing companies based out of the USA. You can purchase oils and other products directly from these companies through a consultant or distributor.

Twenty8 is not a MLM company. We are a small, boutique, Australian-based and 100% organic, online company.

We have a philosophy that there is enough for everyone and there is space for all. Our recommendation is that you do your research and look for a consultant, distributor or company that is professional with their advice and one who stays within their scope of practice.

Twenty8 is not a medical or clinical aromatherapy based business. We offer education programs so that people are well-informed and educated on how to use essential oils safely with a focus on ‘everyday aromatherapy’.

Where do I start with Twenty8 skincare?

Twenty8 has a small but very effective and high quality range of skincare products.

Our skin is constantly changing and therefore we believe it is important to be flexible and able to adapt with those changes.

We have two cleansers, a choice in toners including a concentrate or flower hydrosols, one moisturiser, two concentrated serums and a healing skin booster. The idea is that you can interchange products and use according to you and your skin’s needs at any one time.

We believe in simple, beautiful and effective skincare.

There is no right or wrong with Twenty8, it’s a case of finding what’s best for you and your skin’s needs.

You can also use your essential oils and boost any one of the Twenty8 products. For instance you could add a drop of lavender to your moisturiser if your skin had been exposed to the sun for too long. Or a drop of Frankincense to your serum if your skin felt particularly dry. A drop of Chamomile would be ideal if your had a break out or a drop of Patchouli added to the skin booster could be ideal if your skin felt oily.

You can shop according to the kits we have created, which may include a combination of products or we often find that customising your skincare ritual with a mix of products and essential oils can deliver the best results.

To get started we would recommend the Ultimate Skincare Kit for normal skin and the Sensitive Skincare Kit for sensitive and dry skin.

How do I use Twenty8 Skincare?

Twenty8 is a beautiful boutique range of aromatherapy-based skincare and essential oils designed to make you look and feel your best through meaningful self-care rituals.

Below is a simple guide to inspire your daily routine — but remember, there are no strict rules. You can mix and match according to your skin’s needs, add a few drops of essential oil for an extra boost, and most importantly, take each moment as an act of love for yourself.

The ultimate goal is for you to fall more and more in love with the skin you’re in. You are beautiful — never forget that.

Morning Ritual – Face

Cleanse
Gently cleanse the skin with 1–2 pumps of the Ultimate Cleanser (or Sensitive Cleanser for delicate or reactive skin). Massage into the skin using gentle circular motions, then remove with a warm face washer. Repeat if desired — the first cleanse removes surface impurities, while the second works deeper to purify and refresh.

Compress or Spritz
Add four drops of Toner Concentrate to a bowl of warm water. Immerse a face washer, wring out excess water, and gently press onto the face with a press–release action. This helps exfoliate, hydrate, and encourage skin cell renewal.

If short on time, create a spritzer by adding 10 drops of Toner Concentrate to 50 mL of water, or use Lavender or Rose Flower Water instead. Spritz 3–4 times over the face and neck to refresh and tone.

Boost
Apply a thin layer of Healing Skin Boost to slightly damp skin. This soothing gel helps tighten pores, calm blemishes, and works beautifully as a natural primer under makeup. You can also use it as a spot treatment for irritation or breakouts.

Nourish & Moisturise
Massage Nourish Revitalising Moisturiser gently into the skin to stimulate blood flow and hydration. For added radiance or deeper nourishment, apply a few drops of Ester Plus (+) or Face Lift Serum beneath your moisturiser.

You can also add a single drop of your favourite essential oil to your moisturiser for a personalised aroma and skincare boost.

Lips
Finish with the Sweet Mint Lip Balm to soften, hydrate, and protect the lips throughout the day.

Morning Ritual – Body

The Body Boost Ritual is our signature Twenty8 self-care practice — quick, uplifting, and deeply nurturing.

Apply 1 teaspoon of your chosen Body Boost Blend to your hands and gently massage over your body from your toes up to your head in circular motions. This beautiful blend combines pure essential oils, carrier oils, and magnesium to nourish the skin, awaken the senses, and support circulation and lymphatic flow.

Pause at the end with your hands over your face, take three deep breaths, and set a positive affirmation or expression of gratitude for the day ahead.

Evening Ritual – Face

Cleanse
Remove the day with 1–2 pumps of the Ultimate Cleanser (or Sensitive Cleanser for sensitive skin). Massage into the skin using gentle circular motions, then remove with a warm face washer. Repeat if needed for a deeper clean.

Spritz & Hydrate
Spritz the Toner Concentrate, Lavender Flower Water, or Rose Flower Water over your face and neck to soothe and hydrate.

Nourish & Repair
Massage Nourish Revitalising Moisturiser gently into the skin, adding a drop of a calming essential oil like lavender or frankincense if desired. For deeper hydration, apply Ester Plus (+), Face Lift Serum, or Omega Repair beneath your moisturiser.

Omega Repair is also ideal for treating areas of dryness, pigmentation, or stretch marks — deeply replenishing and restoring elasticity.

Lips
Before bed, apply Sweet Mint Lip Balm for overnight moisture and comfort.

Weekly Treatments

Skin Treatment
Once a week, give your skin an at-home facial with the Healing Skin Boost or a nourishing serum. You can enhance the ritual by adding a drop of Frankincense, Geranium, or Lavender to your routine for extra rejuvenation.

Hair Treatment
Nourish your scalp and strands with a weekly Moroccan Hair Serum treatment. Apply generously through the mid-lengths and ends of dry hair, leaving it in for 20 minutes to 24 hours for deep repair and hydration.

When ready to rinse, follow with the Siberian Hair Rinse to cleanse, soften, and leave your hair glossy, strong, and revitalised.

Evening Ritual – Body

After showering or bathing, apply your Body Boost Blend or massage in the luxurious Every Day Body Lotion.

For the evening, choose calming and restorative aromas such as Lavender, Chamomile, Frankincense, Orange, Vetiver, or Ylang Ylang to help you unwind, relax the body, and prepare for restful sleep.

Are the products interchangeable?

Absolutely, we encourage you to get to know your skin and it’s needs and choose your products according to those needs. The more you know your skin the better equipped you will be at giving it the best it deserves.

Are Twenty8 products ok to use on sensitive skin?

All of the Twenty8 range was designed according to sensitive skin. However, there is always that one in a million chance that someone may react. We recommend you test all products on the inside of your wrist before engaging in the Twenty8 skincare rituals.

What if I have a reaction to using Twenty8?

Twenty8 has been designed with sensitive skin in mind, however there is always a chance someone might react. We have hundreds of exquisite plant botanicals and essential oils used to create this range, any one of which may trigger a reaction regardless of how organic and natural it is. This is true of any range.

If you have a reaction or need further information please contact us direct on email info@twenty8.com

Is Twenty8 skincare safe to use during pregnancy?

Yes, when you follow the directions for use, all Twenty8 skincare products and treatments are safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you have any concerns we recommend that you consult your medical practitioner.

In regards to essential oils please always check contra-indications and cautions and check the Quick Reference Blending Guide on the correct dilutions.

Is there a range of products for Men?

Twenty8’s most powerful quality is its interchangeability — each product can be adapted and enhanced with essential oils to suit an individual’s unique needs. And this absolutely includes our beautiful men.

We recommend the Ultimate Skincare Kit or Sensitive Skincare Kit as the perfect starting point for men’s daily rituals. Both offer simple, natural, and effective routines that support clear, healthy, and balanced skin.

For facial hair care, the Himalayan Beard Serum is a must-have. This nourishing botanical blend softens and conditions the beard while caring for the skin beneath. It absorbs easily, leaving the beard smooth, glossy, and subtly scented with natural essential oils.

Each kit and product has been thoughtfully designed to make skincare effortless — delivering powerful results while honouring the simplicity of natural, holistic self-care.

Is there are range of products for Teenagers?

If we can encourage our younger generation to embrace natural, gentle skincare from an early age, those healthy habits and values can last a lifetime.

For teens beginning their skincare journey, we recommend our Acne Repair Bundle — a simple, effective and natural way to support clear, balanced, and healthy skin.

Products we suggest for teenage skin include the Sensitive Cleanser, Healing Skin Boost, and Nourish Revitalising Moisturiser. These work beautifully together to cleanse impurities, calm inflammation, and maintain healthy hydration without harsh chemicals.

Twenty8’s greatest strength lies in its interchangeability — every product can be tailored and enhanced with specific essential oils to suit an individual’s unique needs.

Skin Conditions

If you experience a skin condition such as rosacea, acne, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, blemishes, or premature ageing, we recommend starting with the Healing Skin Boost — one of our most loved and effective products for soothing, repairing, and restoring the skin.

From there, you can build a simple routine around other complementary Twenty8 products such as the Sensitive Cleanser, Nourish Revitalising Moisturiser, and Omega Repair for deeper nourishment.

For personalised guidance, we’re always happy to help.

Please email us at info@twenty8.com so we can understand your skin’s unique needs and recommend the best products and essential oils for you.

How long should I keep my Twenty8 products once opened?

All Twenty8 products have a 2-year shelf-life, however we recommend that you aim to use your products within a 6-month period once opened. This will be longer in a cooler climate and out of direct sunlight and heat.

My product has changed consistency, aroma and colour should I be concerned?

Product Variations

Twenty8 products may vary slightly from time to time. This is due to our small-batch production process and the natural variances that occur with ingredients depending on extraction, harvest, yield, climate, air quality, light, and heat.

At Twenty8, we honour these beautiful differences — they’re a true reflection of our natural, chemical-free approach. We will never add synthetic ingredients or questionable preservatives simply to extend shelf life or ensure perfect uniformity.

If you have any concerns or queries, please reach out via email at info@twenty8.com.

Questions or Feedback

We love hearing from you! If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, please email us at info@twenty8.com.

Our team will be delighted to assist you — email is the best and only way to get in touch with us.

Packaging

What is the story behind the amber glass packaging?

Twenty8 is a practical, beautiful and highly effective skincare range. We want our packaging to reflect those qualities. Amber glass carefully protects our precious ingredients. The pump lids, bottles and jars make the product easily accessible.

We recommend when you get to the bottom of a pump bottle such as the Ultimate Cleanser and Everyday Body Lotion that you replace the pump with the supplied screw top lid to ensure every last precious drop is used. Or add a little water or Base Massage Carrier Oil to make the viscosity slightly thinner and more easily reached.

Is Twenty8 packaging recyclable?

With a strong belief in protecting our environment, yes we are proud to say that our packaging is all recyclable. We also recommend the REDcycle philosophy in regards to packaging used to protect your precious products for postage and handling.

The only exception offered is where we have sent you an incorrect or faulty item. In these rare circumstances we will cover the costs associated with having to return the item(s). This refund will not exceed our standard shipping fee for the item(s)* needing to be returned and can only be paid once the item(s) has been received by our staff.
* Note to international customers: Because duties and taxes are collected by the government in the country where the goods are received (and not by Twenty8), we do not reimburse for these expenses.

Most returns are processed within 5-7 business days of receipt. You will receive an email confirmation once your return or exchange has been processed.
